Losartan K 50 mg, hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg
Indications/Uses
HTN for patients in whom combination therapy is appropriate.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Patient whose BP are adequately controlled w/ losartan monotherapy Initially 1 tab once daily. May be increased to 2 tab once daily if BP remains uncontrolled after about 3 wk of therapy.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Special Precautions
Pregnancy. Childn. Elderly. Losartan: Renal & hepatic function impairment. Lactation. Hydrochlorothiazide: Hypotension & electrolyte/fluid imbalance; may impair glucose tolerance; may decrease urinary Ca excretion; discontinue before carrying out test for parathyroid function; increases in cholesterol & triglyceride levels; may precipitate hyperuricemia &/or gout in certain patients.
Adverse Reactions
Facial edema, fever, orthostatic effects, syncope; angina pectoris, 2nd degree AV block, CVA, hypotension, MI, arrhythmias including atrial fibrillation; palpitation, sinus bradycardia, tachycardia, ventricular tachycardia, ventricular fibrillation; anorexia, constipation, dental pain, dry mouth, flatulence, gastritis, vomiting; anemia; gout; arm pain, hip pain, joint swelling, knee pain, musculoskeletal pain, shoulder pain, stiffness, arthralgia, arthritis, fibromyalgia, muscle weakness; anxiety disorder, ataxia, confusion, depression, dream abnormality, hypesthesia, decreased libido, memory impairment, migraine, nervousness, paresthesia, peripheral neuropathy, panic disorder, sleep disorder, somnolence, tremor, vertigo; dyspnea, bronchitis, pharyngeal discomfort, epistaxis, rhinitis, resp congestion; alopecia, dermatitis, dry skin, ecchymosis, erythema, flushing, photosensitivity, pruritus, rash, sweating, urticaria; blurred vision, burning/stinging in the eye, conjunctivitis, taste perversion, tinnitus, decrease in visual acuity; impotence, nocturia, urinary frequency, UTI.
Drug Interactions
Losartan: Rifampicin & fluconazole. May attenuate antihypertensive effect w/ indomethacin. Hydrochlorothiazide: Potentiation of orthostatic hypotension w/ alcohol, barbiturates or narcotics. Oral antidiabetics & insulin. Additive effect w/ other antihypertensive drugs. Reduced absorption from the GIT w/ cholestyramine & colestipol resins. Intensified electrolyte depletion (particularly hypokalemia) w/ corticosteroid & ACTH. May decrease response to pressor amines w/ pressor amines (adrenaline). Possible increased responsiveness to the muscle relaxant effect of tubocurarine. Reduce renal clearance & increase risk of lithium toxicity. Reduce diuretic, natriuretic & antihypertensive effects of diuretics w/ NSAIDs. May interfere w/ test for parathyroid function.
